The Hidden Mind

To write: to find out about yourself; to generate ideas, we use our subconscious. This part of our brain – the right hemisphere - was until recently supposed to contain the creative half. This may not be true in our modern understanding, but wherever it is, there is a part of our psyche, our brain, our mind, which we do not directly control. All must be a gift from god.

We use it but don’t exert it or control it. Instinct some might call it. Our ideas as writers use it all the time. We can even improve its function: by play, practice and experience.

The super conscious – developed through meditation – seems to be where true creativity arises. In this state, by accessing universal thoughts, one might access the highest level of awareness. According to yoga teachings, this superconscious mind is the infinite intelligence that controls the universe and it's the collective consciousness of all existence.

Sometimes though you need to concentrate and for this you use your conscious mind - especially when doing sums.

Most people have heard we only use 10 percent of our brain. This makes a lot of sense to me. It has a lot to be going on with. It’s just as well we don’t have to control our hearts, brains and especially our nervous system otherwise we’d be in serious trouble.

Do animals and plants have these various forms of consciousness? If so, are we thinking thoughts generated by monkeys and chickens? If not, maybe it is what separates us from them.

Do we lose it over the years? If so we should use it now and as often as we can to write, to understand. Many books already talk about our use of it to understand ourselves and other things that we wouldn't know about otherwise. If this is true, it’s time for a new diary and pen. Definitely before I develop Alzheimer’s that’s for sure.
