Diet

I have recently been diagnosed with ‘Pre-Diabetes,’ a new condition, which is a wake up call for my fat belly. This means I have to eat a lot less, which makes me think how little people have to eat to actually survive, and how much people (especially in the west) eat, and how obese and wasteful we are.

I have been learning (from my mum – cos doctors don’t know what they’re talking about) that I need to eat fry ups and special red lentil/green pea pasta. I reckon as long as you eat less you’re onto a winner. There are many reasons to lose weight and be hungry but a serious disease is definitely up there.

They say there is enough food in the world to feed 10 billion or more, but if we were all Pre-Diabetic and ate only what we needed, maybe we don’t have to go to the moon or mars in order to feed our rising population.

After going to see the nurse the next day, it turned out that actually my blood glucose is normal and it’s my cholesterol that’s the problem – the exact opposite of before. What a mystery! Either my body works in strange ways or there is something wrong with the inner workings of the NHS. I hope they get this sort of thing right for people with more serious conditions. Otherwise people might be treated with the very opposite of what they actually need. Death or taxes await.
